Introducing LOOP Exchange - A New and Powerful Way to Share Files on the Web

    December 12th, 2007

LOOP ExchangeWe are proud and excited to introduce the beta release of LOOP Exchange. LOOP Exchange is a simple yet revolutionary way for you to web-enable Microsoft® Office® documents for file sharing.

Register today for LOOP Exchange, it’s free! If you are already part of our LOOP community, you can login to LOOP Exchange with your LOOP email and password to begin building and deploying Dynamic Document Packages (DDPs) for sharing.

LOOP Exchange is an industry first as it lets anyone create, build and deploy web-based solutions with the same Microsoft Office files that people have used for years. Since LOOP Exchange is built on a simple and proven technology, no programming experience is needed to create and deploy Dynamic Document Packages. Our LOOP community will be able to easily and safely share all of their hard work and intellectual capital without exposing their documents, formulas or secrets. LOOP Exchange brings web-based solutions to anyone who has ever worked with Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint files.

    What makes LOOP Exchange different?
Unlike other file sharing services where files are posted for sharing in their original format, LOOP Exchange goes beyond just sharing. We allow you to share your document or set of documents as a web-based solution protecting your original files and delivering dynamic output to the user. LOOP Exchange converts the files into a web-based solution to capture inputs on a web form and dynamically create output as a single PDF. The original files remain secure and untouched.

Since LOOP Exchange is part of LOOP, it also leverages our document packaging technology, which makes it easy to add other file types to your DDP, including any PDF, JPG, HTML, XML, Text, BMP, GIF, PNG, Publisher and Visio files, and deliver all of them as single PDF.

What is a Dynamic Document Package (DDP)?
A DDP is a document or group of documents consisting of Microsoft Excel, Word and/or PowerPoint files used to create web-based solutions. All of this is done without exposing any of the formulas or other confidential information from your original files.

To learn more, click here. We look forward to seeing you on the LOOP Exchange!

    Document Web Research with LOOP

    November 16th, 2007

We wanted to share a recent email summary from one of our LOOP users — we asked him to explain how he has been using our Add URL function on LOOP to PDF for Firefox:

“I am a graduate student, and I spend a lot of time doing research on the Internet. I found your LOOP service on Firefox which has allowed me to document web research more efficiently. I can now capture web pages and convert them to PDF files by clicking the add URL button. Even better, it allows me to quickly package them into a single PDF, bookmark each website and then name the new combined PDF file. When LOOP converts the web page to PDF, it automatically places the web address at the bottom of the page so I have record of where I found the information. I also discovered that it allows me to create PDF files from a variety of file types and package them into one PDF file, including my web pages. Not only did LOOP save me a TON of time it also helped me better organize my web research. Overall, this tool is WAY COOL! Thanks Drawloop!”

    Make free PDFs with LOOP

    October 16th, 2007

    Posted by SoftwareCEO

This month Intel opened a new website called CoolSW that uses “crowd sourcing” to highlight software. “The CoolSW site is an online community of people passionate about software,” says the site. Members post information about an interesting software company, and site visitors vote on whether that company is “cool.”

If you sometimes need a PDF but don’t want to spend $299 for Adobe Acrobat, this free service could be the answer. LOOP is a SaaS offering that creates PDFs from MS Office files, graphics, or web pages. It can even combine numerous files into a single PDF.

One obvious use: Packing a mess of files into a single attachment that’s easier to send and receive by e-mail. LOOP doesn’t offer all the advanced features of the full Acrobat package, but how often do you need those anyway?

This free PDF-making software comes from Irvine, Calif.-based Drawloop Technologies, which claims 30,000 users. The company provides more powerful document packaging services for a fee. This is one example of the kind of disruptive technology that established software firms need to watch out for. Note to Adobe: Consider buying these guys before you-know-who discovers them.
